Paintball

Paintball, or survival games, is a fast-paced, grown-up version of a school playground game of tag. The difference is you play with markers (they’re not called guns for a reason) and it stings a bit.  But just a little, because there’s nothing like a bit of fear to get your heart racing and adrenaline pumping – key ingredients for the amazing rush you will feel after your first set when you’re safely behind the mesh with your heart beating in your throat.

Sabah has a few outdoor paintball ranges dotted about, but Kota Kinabalu only has 1 indoor paintball arena. Currently in Asia City next to the food court, Survivor Paintball Games offers the thrill of the hunt (or being hunted, poor you) any time and in any weather. Survivor Games & Sports Club Sdn Bhd (691330-K) (SGSC) is a company based in Sabah for organizing sports activities related to Paintball with license approved by Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia to conduct Paintball activities throughout Sabah. The 2 venues are Paintball Centre At Suria Sabah (Indoor Zone) and Paintball Games at Kampung Melinsung, Papar (Outdoor Zone).

Rock Climbing

Sport in which participants climb up or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a predefined route without falling. Rock climbing competitions have objectives of completing the route in the quickest possible time or the farthest along an ever increasingly harder route. Rock climbing needs the use of hands to support the climber's weight as well as to provide balance.
Rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport, one that often tests a climber's strength, endurance, agility and balance along with his mental control. It can be a dangerous sport and knowledge of proper climbing techniques and usage of specialized climbing equipment is crucial for the safe completion of routes. Because of the wide range and variety of rock formations around the world, rock climbing has been separated into several different styles and sub-disciplines that are described below. While not an Olympic event, rock climbing is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as a sport.

Rock and wall climbing enthusiasts can climb to their heart’s content at the Sabah Indoor Climbing Centre in Likas, which located outside Kota Kinabalu city. The Sabah Indoor Climbing Centre features a variety of walls to with grades catering for total beginner and the more advanced climber. The climbing walls were built according to British Mountaineering Council standards, with UIAA standards ropes, harnesses and climbing hardware, ensuring your safety whilst rock climbing in Kota Kinabalu’s most exciting exercise center.

Water Sports

Snorkelling

Snorkelling
is the practice of swimming on or through a body of water while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped tube called a snorkel, and usually swim fins. Use of this equipment allows the snorkeler to observe underwater attractions for extended periods of time with relatively little effort. Snorkelers can see the beauty of the ocean and even can see fishes swimming around them.

Scuba diving

Scuba diving  is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a scuba set to breathe underwater for recreation, commercial or industrial reasons.

Scuba-Doo

These 4 feet tall machine that looks like a scooter with a mushroom-like helmet and oxygen tanks and balloon attached to it. It turned out to be ‘Scuba–Doo’, a scuba-diving equipment for rental. SCUBA is an acronym for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Many kids go for scuba -doo, where you go underwater and feed the fish with bread crumbs and the fish will all come around you and the company will videotape the whole event and sold the CD to you after the ride. It is not cheap RM 180 per kid ( for Malaysian) , RM 250 for foreigners for a half hour scuba-doo and the CD cost RM 50.

Parasailing

Parasailing is a recreational activity where a person is towed behind a vehicle (usually a boat) while attached to a specially designed parachute, known as a parasail. The boat then drives off, carrying the parascender into the air. If the boat is powerful enough, two or three people can parasail behind it at the same time. The parascender has little or no control over the parachute.
During parasailing at Manukan Island, you can see the islands from a bird's eye view. As high as 150 feet in the air, you can not only experience another view of the islands, but also see corals like otherwise not possible.

Waterskiing

Waterskiing is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniqu. The rider is usually towed behind a motorboat; typically at speeds of 18–24 miles per hour depending on the water conditions, board size, rider's weight, and rider's comfort speed.
Wakeboarding is easier than you may think and only very few have not managed to get a good ride after a short lesson. All our instructors are ready to spend some time with you to have you experience this great sport in no time.

Jet Ski

Jet Ski, are also known as water-motorcycle. Experience the thrill of racing over the flat waters. We have a wide range of jet ski available at the water sports centre.

    How to reach Manukan Island
    :
As you arrive, get your ticket from the first building on your right. Decide which island you want to go – Gaya, Manukan, Sapi or Mamutik (they have catalogue with pictures of island at the counter). Island hopping with choice of 2 or 3 islands are possible. We paid for single island, Manukan - cost us RM17.00 per person. Do factor in another RM6.00 per person for terminal fee, payable at counter 2. Return time is also flexible – just ask staff at the counter for pick up time and make advance arrangement.
To Manukan island, the journey took merely 15 minutes. The boatman dropped us at the wooden jetty, off the boat we were greeted by friendly fishes and clear aquamarine water.

After paying RM3.00 per person for marine conservation fee, we walked around the island. Manukan, being the 2nd largest island after Gaya Island is not that huge either, it is only about 0.5 square kilometers.
The main departing  point to the Manukan Island is Jesselton Point.

SCUBA diving

Scuba diving ("SCUBA" originally being an acronym for self contained underwater breathing apparatus, now widely considered a word in its own right) is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a scuba set to breathe underwater.
Unlike early diving, which relied exclusively on air pumped from the surface, scuba divers carry their own source of breathing gas (usually compressed air), allowing them greater freedom than with an air line. Both surface supplied and scuba diving allow divers to stay underwater significantly longer than with breath-holding techniques as used in snorkeling and free-diving. Depending on the purpose of the dive, a diver usually moves underwater by swim fins attached to the feet, but external propulsion can come from an underwater vehicle, or a sled pulled from the surface.

Sipadan Island is the first word on everyone's lips when discussing diving in Borneo and it truly is one of the finest dive spots on the planet but there is much more, such as Layang Layang - a little speck of an atoll off the north coast of Sabah which is fringed by some of the best coral fields you are likely to see. However it is for the huge schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks that patrol around the island that Laying Layang has developed the reputation as a 'must see' Malaysia diving destination. Other places such as Mabul, Kapalai and Mataking Island are world renowned destinations for macro dives.

Mount Kota Kinabalu

Mount Kinabalu (MalayGunung Kinabalu) is a prominent mountain on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is located in the East Malaysian state of Sabah and is protected as Kinabalu National Park, a World Heritage Site. Kinabalu is the tallest peak in Borneo's Crocker Rangeand is the fourth tallest mountain in the Malay Archipelago after Papua's Puncak JayaPuncak Trikora and Puncak Mandala. Mount Kinabalu is also the 20th tallest mountain in the world by topographic prominence.

In 1997, a re-survey using satellite technology established its summit (known as Low’s Peak) height at 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) above sea level, which is some 6 metres (20 ft) less than the previously thought and hitherto published figure of 4,101 metres (13,455 ft).
Mount Kinabalu includes the Kinabalu montane alpine meadows ecoregion in the montane grasslands and shrublands biome. The mountain and its surroundings are among the most important biological sites in the world, with over 4500 species of plant, 326 species of birds, and 100 mammalian species identified. Among this rich collection of wildlife are famous species such as the gigantic Rafflesia plants and the orangutan. Mount Kinabalu has been accorded UNESCO World Heritage status.
Low's Peak can be climbed quite easily by a person in good physical condition and there is no need for mountaineering equipment at any point on the main route. Other peaks along the massif, however, require rock climbing skills.
Climbers must be accompanied by accredited guides at all times due to national park regulations. There are two main starting points for the climb: the Timpohon Gate (located 5.5 km from Kinabalu Park Headquarters, at an altitude of 1,866 metres (6,122 ft)), and the Mesilau Nature Resort. The latter starting point is slightly higher in elevation, but crosses a ridge, adding about two kilometres to the ascent and making the total elevation gain slightly higher. The two trails meet about two kilometres before Laban Rata.

Accommodation is available inside the park or outside near the headquarters. Sabah Parks has privatized Mt Kinabalu activities to an organization called Sutera Sanctuary Lodges (also known as Sutera Harbour). Sutera is now requiring hikers stay one night at their lodge near the entrance, in addition to a required stay at Laban Rata. The cost to stay is considerably higher than at lodging just outside the park, and includes a mandatory purchase of meals, etc. From there, climbers proceed to the Timpohon gate at 1,866 metres (6,122 ft), either by minibus or by walking, and then walk to the Laban Rata Resthouse at 3,270 metres (10,730 ft). Most people accomplish this part of the climb in 3 to 6 hours. Since there are no roads, the supplies for the Laban Rata Resthouse are carried by porters, who bring up to 30 kilograms of supplies on their backs. Hot food and beverages, hot showers and heated rooms are available at Laban Rata. The last 2 kilometres (6,600 ft), from the Laban Rata Resthouse at 3,270 metres (10,730 ft) to Low's Peak (summit) at 4,095.2 metres (13,436 ft), takes between 2 and 4 hours. The last part of the climb is on naked granite rock.
Given the high altitude, some people may suffer from altitude sickness and should return immediately to the bottom of the mountain, as breathing and any further movement becomes increasingly difficult.
